This is my New York pic. It's Margaret Bourke-White's "DC-4 Flying Over Manhattan, 1939". I saw it on a greetings card a few years ago, and just had to have a copy of the poster version. Well, I tracked one down, bought it, and it sat around in a cardboard tube for ages, until Linda found it. While I was out, she sneaked into my house, stole it away and had it framed as a birthday present. That was before we were living together of course! It hung on the wall above the fireplace looking wonderful. Eventually, I sold the house and it doesn't have a home right now. I wish we could find somewhere for it.
For this photograph, I was after a gritty, contrasty look, with some motion blur to signify it's current state of homelessness, being moved from house to house, and room to room. The result is just what I wanted. I picked this one of the 3 or 4 attempts as I love the near sharpness around the plane and the Chrysler building.
I hope I'm not breaching copyright with this. I've tried to create this as a new image using only a very small and blurred section of the original.
