Visited the guy's up at Terry's Beetle Services as I wanted to see the car stripped before the repaint. Here, they're cutting out the rust in front of the rear wheel arch. This is the worst part of the car, but look how good the side panel is!
While there, I took a look in the glovebox. The original (and now rare) owners manual was in there, a guarantee card for the 'rubberised underseal' treatment from 1964, A City of Westminster residents parking permit of unknown age, and a 1995 copy of Volksworld magazine, which included a report on the "VW Summer Nationals" in which, I read, I made it through to the semi finals, racing the old '68 down the quarter mile. I think I'm starting to bond with the old thing!
