Original Gulledge House

The home of William Asbury Gulledge on Cooper St. in Verbena. Picture made from a snapshot made
about 1924. It burned about a year later. The Rock House replaced this home on Cooper Street in
1926. This house was built before 1900 and was renovated and redocorated by the Gulledges about
1923. Long blinds (shutters) were removed from windows, as was the custom about that time; the
windows on the verandas were French windows, extending to the floor. The second story rooms were
added during the renovation as were the French doors to the reception hall and living room and
dining room.
