It seems trite to say, but this evokes a similar feeling to some of the shots from the film Apocalypse Now. Your images are so striking and thoughtful. Again, I thank you for taking the time to capture some of this experience and for sharing it with such helpful context in the descriptions.

You don't know what freedom and civil rights are until you lose them; a hard lesson for us south Vietnamese.

At the end, only "ordinary" people who suffers the most.

I truly feel for the Iraquis now. I can see what will happen to them by looking back Vietnam in April 1975.

After winning the war and imposing a strict communist system on South Vietnam, it took more than ten years for the Vietnamese Communist Party to realize that they had destroyed a better economic system and a more democratic political system, so they started implementing Doi Moi (Reform) policy which, in fact, they just followed what China had been doing a few years before. But by then, hundreds of thousands of South Vietnamese boat people had died in the high seas or in the re-education camps.

This photo is well placed. It's a symbol of Saigon 30/4/1975. The end of a war, an era, a way of life, a culture, a political system. You don't know the value of something until you lose it.
