Terry: looking at a magnification of the raw file, I think that is a blade of water grass. I don't see it on some of the preceding shots. Must have happened when her put his head under water... Made me crazy all day, too...

Great series, Michael!! I'm sure you have the ID correct. I am intrigued, though, with that green at the top of its bill. Just perusing my bird books and a couple of sites on the internet, I haven't seen mention of the green. I'm delighted that you are doing bird photography - its fun and interesting to see the different birds you have.
