Mystery Gull

Salinas State Beach, Monterey Co

Another shot of the gull initially identified as a Glaucous, but this i.d. now seems wrong on the basis of the bill shape, which resembles Western / Glaucous-winged. Possibly a Glaucous x Glaucous-winged hybrid? See other picture under gull portraits.

The strongly bi colored bill and pale eye point to Glaucous Gull for me. However the black does seem to bleed down the bill a bit and this isn't typical for pure GLGU. The birds is worn so the faint duskiness to the primaries is mostly likely faded away if this is a hybrid which it very well could be.
