You have brought life to one of the most photographed spots in Yosemite. So, I tried to figure out how you did it and decided that there were many elements involved. The first set has to do with light. The play of light between the sky and the mountains and the leaves it amazing, but I think the second aspect is what makes this image sing. It is the color. There is an interesting shade of green near the center of the picture and the red tree is the subtle punctuation that brings the whole thing together.
If life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Most people would not have thought to take a picture in weather like that, but you turned in into a picture that has a soul.
This is a remarkable landscape, Carol -- almost Adamsish in its intensity. I left Yosemite as you were arriving, and made one strong image in the rain just before we took off for the High Sierra at noon that day.
I'll be posting my new galleries in about a week or so -- 64 new images of Yosemite and the Easter Sierra in all. It was my first visit and it was quite inspiring. I saw a number of things in your gallery that I had shot in the sunlight only a few days earlier. You show us here how to to make the most of what you are given. This shot is unforgettable.
