There is a core element of great photography known as simplicity. Please beware of simplicity's alter ego—vagueness. More or less I agree that less is more.
Be careful because sometimes less is—less. Simplify your photography.
Stop, however, before you remove those supplemental visual elements that can complement the center of interest/subject.
Find a visually interesting subject, then work the foreground, middle ground and background to generate a complimentary balance based on the color, form or mood suggested by the original subject.
This approach builds by adding to the subject and can introduce a great deal of personal expression into your picture taking. -
