April 2007 Daniel Bollag

Church*3
by Daniel Bollag

Vallemaggia (Ticino), Switzerland

Modern church in rural surroundings:
Swiss architect Mario Botta’s «San Giovanni Battista»,
the interior of which you saw in the last stf-Challenge:

And if you *really* want to know why I shot this at iso400:
I had forgotten to change settings
after having taken pictures inside the church...

What an incredibly unusual structure! Without the description, I'd be wondering what this is - some neo-modern grain silo, an astronomy building, a fancy smokestack...and the setting makes it stand out as a great picture.

Thanks a lot, Tyler, for letting us know your preference. I, for myself, see an—obviously wanted—incongruity as the one you mention even more in the #2 image than in this one. Anyway: surprisingly you forget the shocking contrast between «the ultra-modern structure» and «this ideal mountain landscape» as soon as you enter the church. — db.

I think this is my favorite of the set, but it's a toss-up. They all work very well. I like this one because the ultra-modern structure seems so absurd in this ideal mountain landscape.

Many, many thanks for your—as always—friendly words! It sure will be interesting to see which of my three entries appeal most to our co-challengers... — db.

Daniel, I just can't make up my mind which of your three entries I like best, they're all great shots! I suppose it would be between this one and number one. Mountains and beautiful skies are hard to beat :-) My goodness that is such a strange but beautiful church!

BTW: I’m glad you’re prepared to share the blame for iso400. But did you realise «f/4.0» too? Maybe I should be prohibited from taking photographs...??

Thanks a lot, Denise, for takting the time and making the effort to comment on all three of my entries! — db.

LOL!!!! Thanks for letting us know why you shot at 400 ISO, something I sure can relate too!! All too often sometimes!!! I really like the composition of this image. Very nicely done, Daniel.
