StoneJungle

by Daniel Bollag

Valle Maggia (Ticino), Switzerland

Well, to be honest: this is no jungle nor is it concrete.
It’s the small church San Giovanni Battista
designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta
and built—a decade ago—of local stone (granite and marble).

Thank you, Helen: I’m proud the image has its effect on you (I hope, though, your near-dizziness has more to do with my picture and its angle than with the church itself... ;-)) — db.

Yes, Martin, it started out as a whole set of three photographs of the church’s interior. But as this individual image was, then, so obviously the favorite one for everyone who commented (while the other two did not provoke any remarks at all, not even negative ones...) and as I became aware of the need to try entering something more on-topic, I substituted two images suiting the «Concrete Jungle» theme better. I am flattered, though, by the praise this picture—as opposed to the originally «co-posted» other ones of this series—receives. Thanks for your analysis and kind words! — db.

Beautiful composition, Daniel! The pattern, entryway, the slab of granite/marble on the right side, all add up to a well-balanced image! I thought I saw a series of this place entered here... I thought it made for a really nice set but this one imo is the best of the three!

Once more, bottles, you make me nearly blush ;-) I really am glad to know you like this image: your assessment and preferences within the series (and, as well, those of the other photographers leaving comments here) help me always a lot to make up my own mind evaluating images! — db.

What a beautiful church Daniel! I like the other two images too but this is definitely my favorite. The view of the arch is great and I think your composition is just outstanding here. Truly a wonderful shot!
