Cool composition - I love all the rings in the wood! It's amazing that the insides of those large holes are so smooth.

Well, these holes in the wood were made by insects of some type; thus the idea that this is - or was - home, sweet home to some form of life ;-) BTW, this was the end of a stick of firewood in my neighbour's woodpile.
