Silence of THE MAN

Best viewed in "original"

This requires a bit of explanation. Of course it's cicada related (that's a cicada with its wings spread), because that's just about all that's going on in Washington these days ;-) I have been bugged (!) by the yearbook staff to come up with a half page....it's traditional that I do one, so I've been trying for a while to think one up. Tris and I were chatting about the cicadas and somehow "Silence of the Lambs" came up....and BINGO. This is the product of our inadvertant collaboration. Enjoy. I think it fits the theme (covered opening, cicada season opening)....let me know if you don't. Fremiet

John - great imagination and superlative execution. Everything about it is just right for the mood you've wanted to create. -- Mike

John, the last 2 comments had the word 'amaze' so I will make it 3 in a row. Amazing shot, really looks like a movie poster for a 'Lambs' sequel. john(ebones)

Another very creative and well-done piece John. (It does make me flinch a bit ;).) Melanie (mlynn)

Again, a very creative idea, Fremiet. I like the starkness of this one, with the added color. The cicada is a really timely addition...it's position here would certainly convince me to be the "silent man" :) MFC

This is elegant, telling...but telling what? Artistically it's a wonderful work, but the symbolism (the only reason for such a composite) is giving me hives! Seriously, while I find this evocative and strong and graphically / aesthetically wonderful, I just plain don't get it! Mea culpa, not yours. Congrats on an evocative and beautiful image.

Nancy...coming from an artist such as you I'm not quite sure what to say except a big thank you. Approval from one's peers means a tremendous amount. Here on the STF our peers are peerless and generous. Thanks a million. John

John, I am now officially in awe of your work. I don't really have the words, except to say that this image is spectacular and boy-oh-boy, I sure wish I'd done it. You've set the bar another notch or three higher. Beautifully done, John. --Nancy/JoseNoway

I would normally think it's a bit strange, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Another example of your great creativity. Helen

OH WOW!!!!!....I am amazed and blown away !!!.. Then it is as perfect as it gets! How much it then resembles the Dead Head Moth[i am sure thats not quite the right name }.. three words.. I LOVE IT.. irish_eye

irish_eye....that IS a cicada. we just pinned its wings open so that it would have some verisimilitude with the original "Lambs" poster. Don't think it would have come off as well with the wings folded back. Fremiet

Fremiet..I love the fading eye into the the white of the ground..while the other eye has so much detail.. also love the eye colour!!Beautifully captivating .. with a Bosch-like sensibility .. [dont ask me why i say that] Fantastic face ! But is that not a moth at the mouth.. Should it not be the incredible Rip Van Winkle Cicada.. ?Very dramatic as a whole composition .. and love the purple shading coming form the lower left..irish_eye
