Sorry to spoil the fun Eric. This is a wonderful photograph no matter what it might be. I love the slimy feel to it. Yech. :) Ann C.

Ann, you're no fun! You got it. This is a gold ore scoop in a mine near Silverton, CO. The mine turned out to be salted (a little gold put down to make investors think a rich vein was present), fooling everyone, including the head engineer who designed this scoop -- and who gave us the mine tour. "Why?" "Because it's the only way I can stay underground," he answered. Erichocinc

BTW, it is also a really really cool slimy-looking picture too. :) Ann C.

A coal chute? A piece of mining equipment?

Nice try, Ann, but BEEEEP! Here's a hint: the truth lies far below the surface of things.

It's killdozer, everybody ruuuuunnnnnn!! (Once read a science fiction story called "Killdozer" in which all the machines revolted.) This is a large wet backhoe. Ann C.
