These images are of an A cam in action; and the intake lobe for number one cylinder in particular.

This image shows the cam rotated clockwise about 26 degrees from contact: to the point of 0.020in valve lift.

Besides reaching the point of valve opening used to "measure" duration, it can be seen that the cam lobe appears to have flattened out on the shim/tappet.
