closing in...

See the "020" stamping?

See the brinelling already in evidence around #1 cylinder?

See the discolored aluminum around the combustion chamber and between #2 and #3 cylinders? This one got HOT.

That this head ended up hot and warped, and with a blown headgasket is obvious. The cause is not. Which scenario played out here? Was it a category 1 failure? or a category 2 failure.

Let's see: the head was resurfaced; and reinstalled with new gaskets. Obviously, it MUST have been a coolant loss that was the main cause here, right? [by the way, the block deck was flat: I did check that.] So, the head WAS flat after the resurfacing; and the block deck was also flat. The headgasket was clamped between two flat surfaces. So it had to be a category 1 failure: an outslde coolant loss caused to overheating and resultant head warpage and gasket failure.

WRONG!!! WRONG!!! WRONG!!!

The original repair was done wrong.
