Assassin Bug, Hiranetis braconiformis (Reduviidae: Harpactorinae)

Tiputini Forest Reserve, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

This orange-and-black assassin bug is an apparent mimic of similarly marked braconid wasps (below left), along with a sawfly (below right). Flying from leaf to leaf, it holds out one hind leg apparently to simulate a wasp ovipositor.
