Kissing Bug, Rhodnius barretti n. sp. (Reduviidae: Triatominae)

Yasuní National Park, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

This blood-sucking bug was literally swept from a high door ledge with a broom (momentarily the most convenient tool in sight). These insects are serious vectors of Trypanosoma, the protozoan responsible for causing the dreaded Chagas Disease. Rhodnius barretti was newly described by Abad-Franch et al. (2013).
