The pools of water held by plant parts, known as phytotelmata, support a huge variety of invertebrates. Most are scavengers, detritvores, herbivores, algivores, filter-feeders or predators (Frank & Lounibos 2009). The larvae of some species of Stenomicra are predators on other phytotelm organisms such as mosquito larvae. This adult was found in the leaf bract of a Heliconia.
