Our Home Range or Happy Valley.jpg

I'm starting a new project. It is called "Views Of Utah...by an Outsider". I don't think this picture will be part of the project. It wasn't the photo I planned for the project. That photo is here http://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/53361969

There is no doubt this is my picture of the day. OK really it is nine images stitched together and...well maybe this photo was a close second http://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/53350249 LOL

Now about the project...it will be more editorial in nature. It won't just be pretty pictures we've all seen and many have taken, of Utah. It will hopefully be a photo essay more about what Utah is, the people, the places and maybe how they all relate. I'll take the photos as I see them. Then maybe after a year or so I'll try to organize them into some sort of photo essay. Sometimes those photos may make it into the PAD gallery and likely, sometimes not. We'll just have to see how it all develops.

PS: in about the middle of the photograph is Wanda's mountain...it is kind of where the sky goes from pinks to orange.

Nope Mr McKinlock, it was another "jim". . . . but like a blonde, I failed to notice his comment was made privately . . I could read it , no problem. . but then I am always "logged in" under Bill's account. So YOU are not the one I was scolding.

Wanda, is your last comment meant for me? I didn't mention a 5D, freudian slip?
Wm. Bates14-Dec-2005 03:28
Jim,

Way to go! Just when I thought Bill would have forgotten about the earlier suggestion of a 5D, YOU come along and bring it up again! (tapping foot , arms folded across My chest). . . Ok, that's it, ,, , I am going to HAVE to auction off that candy bra. . . any bidders? (putting on My best charming smile. . .along with the bra)

Wanda
oh, and here ya go. . . wahbates@compuserve.com (grin) Just in case you wanna make your bid privately. (smirk)

The colors are breathtaking.Seeing it in person must be so special. And on the subject of the candy-bra.You should sell it on e-bay.You two should be compensated for all of you hard work. Thanks again for all you do.

Guess I just became a publisher!
Wm. Bates11-Dec-2005 23:00
Honor Schmonor. . .(laffin).. . . and I'd like to know just what publisher would give an advance? Send them My way and I'll work out a deal. (grin)

Great idea Wanda! And does the winner of the auction get to personally remove it from you by the method of his choice? (Grinning ever so widely!)

Throw in that qualification and you should have the 5D by next weekend....(wink).....!

But as a wiser method to save your honor......announce the project...."Views Of Utah...by an Outsider" as a coffee table book and the advance from a publisher should buy the camera!!
Wm. Bates11-Dec-2005 19:27
Thanks a lot Robert! I was hoping Bill would forget about a 5D. But, if you guys out there want to encourage him, you will have to help Me with a "fund raiser" (Grin) I still have the Candy Bra I am willing to auction off to the highest bidder. (smiling ever so sweetly)

Good luck with the project Bill. Sounds like you've thought it through and we will wait in anticipation for its completion. Wouldn't it be nice to shoot this with a 5D? Just a small hint to Wanda before Christmas ;)

Excellent landscape picture!!

Stunning shot Bill. This goes to show you that amidst all the chaos of life there still resides that underlying beauty. I seriously believe that you should do this as a book. (Also loved the commentary on the other shot.)

Someday soon I hope to see the very vistas that so many people from your area take for granted. Your surroundings seem only to inject a sense of serenity! Once again you amaze me with your creative thoughts. You are an artist. And we all know from where you draw your inspiration.....(wink)....! Is that Wanda in the background climbing that mountain?
Wm. Bates10-Dec-2005 14:08
The frames to make this panorama were shot at 52mm. It is seven miles to the other side of Utah Lake and then another 4 to 5 miles to the base of the mountains. The elevation of the lake is 4250 feet and the taller mountain peaks reach about 11,000 feet above sea level. The pano covers about 18 to 20 miles from north to south.

Beautiful shot.
Steve Patterson10-Dec-2005 12:57
Curious, and I forgot to ask, what focal lenght did you use for the nine stitched images? I am wondering how wide each shot was.
Steve Patterson10-Dec-2005 12:55
Spectacular. The light is wonderful.....I miss the west all the time it seems. Thanks for the view, Bill.
