Lazy Fall Afternoon 09_28_05.jpg

Wanda and I had a fantastic afternoon today. We met Steve and Sally Patterson http://www.pbase.com/spatterson while they were passing through Northern Utah on their annual road trip. We spent a great afternoon and evening in the Cache Valley area of Northern Utah.

We stopped to photograph this guy fishing in the Black Smith Fork River. It was a perfect Fall day without a cloud in our deep blue Rocky Mountain sky.

Steve checking a photo and his settings.

Beautiful fall colors with side lighting. Gets my vote.

Yeah you guys don't suffer from the "summer haze" that runs from early April till middle October. If we put our ploarizers on out your way we would turn the sky so dark blue it would almost be black. We also have very reflective vegetation. Most days for landscapes we have to use haze and circular ploarizer filters.

Jim, the 'blue sky' comment is a bit of an inside joke. When people come to our part of the West for the first time, they often comment on how blue our sky looks. It always sounds a bit funny..because you tend to think the sky is blue or the same color everywhere.

Both Steve and Sally mentioned how blown away they were by how "blue" our sky was. We all laughed about and it became a bit of a running joke. The blue color of the water is from the reflection of the blue sky.

Huh, What sky?

Steve, this image required almost no photoshop. I just did a minor levels adjustment, added a hint more contrast and bumped the saturation 3%.

Oh yeah, the sky really is that blue ;^)
