Wanda03_10_05c.jpg

Wanda and I took a very long drive today for this photo. These red sand dunes are about 40 miles down a dirt road, in the middle of nowhere, near Hanksville, Utah. It is a three and half hour drive south for us.

Clothing was designed by Wanda...ok...we cut some fabric and built them on location. This was taken in the late afternoon magic hour light. It would have been nice to have an assistant and a large reflector for fill light, maybe next time.

Wanda is a trooper. Temperatures were in the high 50s and the wind was blowing. She was pretty chilled before we were done.

I can never forget this shoot! I knew Bill and Gary Blanchett were planning to use it for the premiere issue of Pbase magazine. I was a nervous wreck! I was however very proud of My costume designing ability on this one! (laffin) I about froze My butt off that day and the only reason I stuck it out was because I knew how important it was to Bill. Generally when it comes to Me and being cold, I am NOT a good sport! I HATE to be cold!

You know, the more I look at this shot,
the more I see a little Wilma Flintstone in her outfit here. =)

Assitant huh? I could probably make it down there in about 18-19 hrs! mmmm I don't know? that's a pretty long drive. Wanda mentioned needing as assistant in this shothttp://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/30014426 Now that might be worth the drive. Oh never mind, I'm sure my wife would tell me to not bother coming back. All kidding aside, I really love this image. Bill, you always seem to make such good use of the golden hour. best regards Jim

Really excellent. This is like an ad, I cannot see the need for light fill here at all. But then, what do I know? lol
Gary Blanchette11-Mar-2005 13:25
Yes indeed, these are the images magazines are made of... :-D

This is an absolutely beautiful image that works in every way. If the breeze was coming from a different direction, it wouldn’t have worked, … ditto the sun in the magic hour and even the slope of the Dune. Wanda’s “creation” should be required wear of all women, and will be when I’m finally elected King of the World. Earns a vote from me. Great job.

This has got Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition written all over it.
This shot would make the cover!
Totally elevates your photography to a whole new level. Well done.

Excellent! Sharon and I saw a similar composition in a Usenet/NNTP newsgroup and wanted to also do something similar to it. You guys pulled it off nicely! The lighting was on your side here.

..now if only we had suitable areas for this kind of shot, even within three hours of us. All we have is the Great Lakes. ;)

Bravo Bill & Wanda.

beautiful shot
Susanne11-Mar-2005 07:15
Extremely beautiful. I love the flow of the material in that wind, the colors are very warm and the rays of the sun compliment Wanda's skintone and hair. Absolutely terrific.
