Wanda02_03_05.jpg

Today we spent a wonderful afternoon at the Springville Museum of Art http://www.shs.nebo.edu/Museum/museum.html with our grand daughter. She had a great time and really didn't want to leave which amazed me because she is only five years old.

This painting "Infestation: Enemy at the Door" 1965 by Nikolai Ivanovich Ulyanov (1922-1990) is Wanda's favorite painting in the museum. She loves how it tells a story; but, we don't know how it ends. We have a German soldier, in the depths of WWII, that has just broken in the door to find a frightened little girl and her grandmother. Does he shoot them or weary with war just back out and leave? I like to think he is alone and really does just leave. You can see in his posture and shoulder set he has had enough. Wanda loves the painting because it says something about the person looking at it much more than it says about the painter.

I love everything about this picture! It was easy to pose for (just stand there and enjoy My favorite painting), it brings back special memories of a fun afternoon with our granddaughter Cassia and My hair looks great! What more could I ask for? (grin) I was really impressed with how patient our granddaughter was while posing for this image. And she REALLY enjoyed the art museum. I thought she would be bored to death! Most kids these days don't like anything that doesn't have a video game invovled it some how, but she really enjoyed it and didn't want to leave! What a great kid!

Awesome photo Bill. It's so well taken. And it carries a message we should all take note of. Great stuff, thanks.

Very well done. The level of thought that you put into making this picture just adds to its depth. This may be what seperates great photography from really good snapshots.

OK, so everyone knows, this photo was absolutely planned and staged...well as much as you can stage a photo with a five year old. I had planning to do this photo for a few months. Partly we planned it because Wanda loves the painting and partly because I could just see it in my mind. The camo's which Wanda wears often for knocking around were worn at my request. My grand daughters little stuffed monkey wear you could see it was part of the plan...it kind of mirrors the doll the little girl in the painting is holding. We took about a dozen frames...which can be riped of with the 20D in a few seconds. So while I got a property release from the museum and setup; Wanda and our grand daughter wandered the museum. Wanda and our grand daughter are standing under a skylight I had to move them around a little so the frame didn't grow out of somebodies head. Then it was snap away at a few different bracketing's.

Bill - I haven't looked through your gallery completely but I believe this to be one of your best images. Very nice indeed.

Very nice Bill. Great composition. My 5 year old daughter also loves going to the art museum. Some hope for the future I think.

i was more intrigued by the fact wanda is wearing 'camo' pants and looking at a battle inspired painting.
