What did you say? I can barely see you among this chaos of voices.Where are you? As lost as I am,underneath this avalanche.Falling from everywhere in the world on top of us at once. Can we dig ourselves out of this mess? Into somewhere understandable.

Thanks, Kal, for posting the color version of this image. I left my impressions for you there. As I had guessed, that one is more real and makes a stronger point to me.

Now I've seen it I prefer the color version.

After seeing the one in color.. I had to come back. I won't be as long as Phil. Let just say, but you know it by now, that I am a lover of color... But in that case, Surprisingly I like the b&W better. This is why I ask if you weree thinking in B&w when shooting. I find it impossible to do both at the same time. i use to shoot b&w, years ago, on films. I simply stopped. The mental process is different for me.

Claude and then you took the words right out of my mouth. By all means, post it in color. It should be very instructive. My main concern is the man peeping out at us. Any careful viewer would eventually find him, and along with him the point of the picture, but I would guess that casual viewers would not find him as easily in black and white as they would in color. So the question remains: what kind of viewers are you trying to reach with this image? I think that the color version, because it is by its very nature less abstract and more "real" than black and white, may well make it easier for the casual viewer to spot him. I also feel that the chaotic blast of color coming from all of those covers at once might also be far more incongruous than they appear in this version. It just my hunch. We shall get the answer when you post it, Kal.

I will post the colour version tomorrow, since I am sure Phil will say the same....The "By Bulb Light" series is all meant to to be B&W, but as a stand alone image, I will post the colour version. Thanks Claude. K

This image is at the same time incredibly busy, aswell as incredibly minimal, because of the people who seem to play only a marginal role here, while in fact they are important to draw the eye to anything else but the magazines. It makes this a well balanced scene.

Great shot, Kal, and a wonderful Shanghainese mood to the whole image. I like how the stall owner is peeping out from behind the magazine rack. Just wonderful.

Well seen and well caught. Love the combination of that kind of place with all those magazines and "bulb light" effect.
