My fist harder than the concrete that clenches into towers crushing my disappearing space. These serviant bones and old ways being ground into the dust of industry mortar by the faceless future domino stampede.Without thinking.Without sympathy.Like a plague spawned from beyond our borders. They insist that I am leaning against a window of opportunity.Yet my drowning tears are from an injured bird that has flown into a frigid glass wall.My spirit wing bent with demise. While you are outside, reflecting,as powerless as I am.

Intense :O

You have been sharply critical of the passing of old Shanghai and the coming of the new. On my recent shoot with Jen in the old city, she showed me whole neighborhoods that will soon vanish. Given such a context, this image becomes all the more poignant. In it, you personalize the end of a cherished way of life by juxtaposing one man's sorrow with the new city that rises around him.

a very powerful image, Kal. it speaks to me of humanity's desire to get more and more technical, urban, modern...without realising how many problems it can actually cause. i agree with others before me...one of your best.

Very apt caption, well taken, well composed and the reflection is just strong enough.

This is a fantastic shot and great to come here and see it getting excellent recognition from so many great photographers. I'll add my two cents - I love this shot. Fantastic balance of strength between the foreground and background and a perfect expression / moment from the guy in the window. There's nothing I would change about this. voted

I've not gotten the chance to study all your fine works and don't know if this is your best. But one thing I know is that it is one of the most provoking and remembered shots I've seen... I also have my urban dream... Thanks for such exceptional capture!

The painful choices. And struggling with despair that can be hopeless for so many.A searing raw nerve :( Brutally excellent!

I agree, I agree!
One of the most impressive, deepest, strongest images you have offered to us!
I think any word of comment cannot add anything to what the picture perfectly expresses by itself.
