Humm... where were you Kal???? Dear God! Should we worry about your safety in these night excursions??
Other than that, it's an interesting shot especially because of the detail of the cyclist that seems to be coveting the bike :) Another great night vision from Shangai...

Wow, I love this shot Kal, everything you need to make a point is in this picture, in a right time, and at the right place, nothing more and nothing less.

I had a similar shot in term of stating levels of societyhttp://www.pbase.com/angeleyes_zyl/image/25988802 , but I like yours better..:)

The last thing I see: weren't you afraid to get hit by a car? What were you doing in the middle of the street?

A keen eye Natisunber...two lovers against the wall...

Great image! love it.

You even catch the four common modes (if this is well two people in the background!)
I like your look and the supplement of meaning you put into your captures.
At first I reed this one with another meaning of envy : the one of making a race!;)

I find this picture especially poignant because today is the first day of the transit strike and all the streets are clogged with all sorts of vehicles, motorized or otherwise, making movement difficult. Progress has a price and wide, open space is one of them. It is only then when one realizes that envy indeed is a deadly sin! Ah, but the cyclist will soon know that. (And that glance is really the core of the picture.)

Well done.

... I love it....

Adalberto pinpoints the decisive moment here -- the look of envy from cyclist to motorcyclist is perfect. It is an image about mobility --- the speeding car flashing through the intersection, the motorcyclist waiting his turn to roar into the night, and last but not least, the guy with the bike who probably wishes that he, too, could burn some rubber here.

The way you caught the look of envy of the human-propelled cyclist towards the engine-powered biker is worth of Henri Cartier-Bresson, or some other master of Photography.

Thanks Marisa. The title refers to the three most common modes of transport here...Moped, Bicycle and Taxi. An ironic title, since this is as empty a road of Shanghai you will ever find ;-) By the way the look is my favourite part...I saw it as social comment on the three levels of society here..represented by the type of vehicle. Maybe some hidden envy here, below the calm exterior of this city full of contradictions. Rgds, Kal

What makes me think over here is the lack of traffic actually, the feeling of emptiness. The perspective is very interesting. Only one car moving and two people waiting, the one on the bicycle has a side look at the other, as if he were waiting for a sign, before starting to cross the road.
The look of the bicycle rider is one of the most fascinating element of the photo.
