I perceive this picture as nicely ironical, the depth of field creates two separate zones in the image and it’s also a way to separate two periods.
It’s not dramatic, at least I don’t feel it like that, it’s symbolic and, simply speaking it’s a very good picture, which can stir our thoughts.
The choice of black and white is perfect.
