The El Mirage Police Department has one K-9 Unit,
Officer Jason Chambers and Moose. K-9’s are commonly
utilized in police work for their keen sense of smell
and their outgoing and loyal behavior.

The handlers and the K-9 are sent through an academy,
where both learn skills on how to work as a team. Such
things are taught at the academy as, obedience, control
commands, suspect apprehension, handler protection,
narcotics detection and explosive detection.

Once graduated from the academy the team is ready for work.
