30/8/05 Double Room my Arse

I am not best pleased. I had a sleepless night; was up at 0630; spent 11 hours travelling, on five different forms of transport; followed by AN HOUR traipsing around with my pack on looking for somewhere to stay in Banglamphu, Bangkok.

All I wanted was a single room with bath for a reasonble price - not so much to ask, is it? After a dozen or more places I began to lose the will to live, and settled for this TINY room, that is MEANT TO BE A FRIGGING DOUBLE!!!! The only way you could get two packs in there is by blocking the door - HELLO, FIRE HAZARD!! And it's twice the price I usually pay. What a joke.

On the bright side, I did check in just before it began pissing it down, which is something. Also It is possible to save time in this hovel of a room, by having a shit and a shower simultaneously, as the bathroom is smaller than your average cupboard.

Ah, the joys of backpacking!

(Sympathy gratefully received :))

Hi, I stayed there last night. Same story, arrived late and ended up in the only shithole in Banglamphu with rooms. Sawasdee Hotel, I think it was called. But recognise the security notice on the back of the door and the same telly that didn't work. Update Banglamphu Pics here www.pbase.com/tjmobile/thailand.

The TV was one of those dodgy cable hook-ups, and the sound was so distorted as to make it unwatchable.

Thanks for the sympathy - you'll be pleased to know I moved hotels this morning, checking into a nice, big, clean single room with bathroom for less money than this dump - and after I checked in I discovered that it even has a rooftop pool - result! I'm a happy bunny again now.

Oh! I am so sorry. Thank God, at least you have a TV.
