Pierre Beaubercy Trepagnier - Original Owner of Plantations Taken to Build Bonnet Carre' Spillway

Pierre Beaubercy Trepagnier of Montz, who married Marie Celeste Delhomme, was the original owner of one of the plantations, Myrtle Land, that the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers acquired when they built the Spillway. His wife was the daughter of another plantation owner whose plantation was also taken.

The Trepagnier house was located where the Shell Chemical Plants sits today on the eastern side of the Bonnet Carre' Spillway. It was not in the Spillway proper. The live oaks that were surrounding the house are still there.

No the Ormond belonged to Pierre Beaubercy's uncle, Pierre Francois Trepagnier. His brother was Francois Jean Trepagnier(the original owner of the Trepagnier house that was located where the Bonnet Carree Spillway sits today). The house was then passed on the Pierre Beaubercy.

Pierre Beabercy Trepagnier was the son of Jean Francois. Pierre Trepagnier was the brother of Jean Francois and son of Francois Trepagnier.

Correct me if wrong but, Pierre owned what is now known as the Ormond Plantation and still stands. It was Jean Francois, Pierre's brother that owned the Trepanier house that was taken to build the Bonnet Carre Spillway and Jean Francois was killed in 1811 during the slave uprising.

The painting shown belonged to Olga Trepagnier, and was destroyed by fire in September, 2007.

I have an oil painting similar to the one you have labeled Pierre Beaubercy Trepagnier, which was passed down from my grandfather Robert Edgar Trepagnier, and it also is Pierre Beaubercy Trepagnier. The man looks similar but with dark hair, and the frame does not have the oval mat. The painting is signed by Collas, a noted portrait painter of that time period, and dated 1827. These 2 portraits could be the same man at different ages.

Yep, happened back then and still happening today....I have a feeling that a lot more is going to be taken away from us. Knowing the history, I can almost see sadness in his eyes.

History records these as acquisitions but I'll bet that most were one sided deals. It's good that the history remains, at least in the portrait.
