Blaenau Ffestiniog

The Ffestiniog Railway was built to take cut roofing slates from this, and other slate mines, down to ships in Porthmadog harbour.
Fixed engines were used to haul wagons up and down inclines, both above and below ground, to get the slate to the railhead.
