November 1: Verano Drive – Rancho Bernardo

Rancho Bernardo, CA

***Don Nieman***, who helps to compensate for the fact he lives in Buffalo, NY. (LOL) by posting some really fine pictures of his neighborhood homes and civic structures, inspires me to put up this image of my home.

Verano in Spanish means summer. I have enjoyed living here for almost 23 years. This home is typical of most in this planned community of about 45,000 people. “RB” has tight covenants. Color schemes, building codes, and design are tightly controlled. There are NO power poles or telephone lines anywhere. People are prohibited from parking RVs, boats, etc. on the street.

All this makes for a nice neat place to live with stable housing values. The downside is that it lacks the variety and texture that can make for an interesting place to live. Southern California living may be comfortable and lovely, but it can be dull.

Beautiful place Robin........I lived in Southern California twice.......once in Palm Springs for four years, and once in Redlands for three years.......I love the weather and the beautiful scenery there.........

To me, this is NOT what America is about. What do you mean I can't park my motorhome or my boat in the driveway or on the street? How do I pack all the camping gear, the food, the kids and all the stuff into the motorhome for vacations? Southern California is beautiful but here in the midwest we are not so uptight.
Oh, by the way, nice house, I love the sky.

I can't see the house number. I want to come over for pancakes. A very nice shot of your home! I prefer the b/w version, you did a great job with the tones!

I like the bw more

I suppose you don't have to ever rake leaves, do you? And I know you can't have snow drifts 5ft high... so why don't we trade for 6 months???

Nice castle Robin. Inviting image. Good one.

Very nicely manicured lawn and shrubs :) Sunny, green - I presume warm too.... sure beats the snow well be getting soon here in NE...

Beautiful landscaping.

Lovely, well-groomed landscaping...but where are all your windows?
Manfred Bachmann02-Nov-2005 01:37
Wooww, very nice home and also great for you, the weather!!
Robin Reid02-Nov-2005 01:15
@Don ... re square shrubbery... they do no HAVE to be that way, just my overly structured view of landscaping .
Mindy McNaugher02-Nov-2005 00:51
Lovely home and yard! Guess you don't rake a lot of leaves?!! ;-)

Robin, this is so fantastic, to get a glimpse of the place from inside which you create all those creative and humorous images. What gorgeous green, live and growing landscaping. No wires! No utility poles! Beautiful blue sky. Is that true it never rains in Southern California? Post one like this again in January! Really make us northerners feel envious.

Do all the shrubbery need to be pruned square?

Thanks for the mention, that was nice of you.

Beautiful skies, Robin.

Well, you can't have anything and you don't have piles of McDonalds wrappers everywhere like we do here - so that looks like heaven to me.

You know what...I love it...not a dirty damn leaf losing, twig dropping gum tree in sight !! That & underground facilities & your in paradise !
Guest 01-Nov-2005 18:16
Oooooooh, this is a beautiful home! I love the finely tuned yard!
Zak01-Nov-2005 17:28
nice house!
Gary Winters01-Nov-2005 16:49
I like the color version better. Too bad you don't golf; you could use the front yard to practice putting!
Cliff01-Nov-2005 16:02
You live in a beautiful place Robin.
Love the palm(?) tree in front of your house. Needless to say we don't have one of those :o)
Herb 01-Nov-2005 16:01
The gardener did a good job.
Coleen Perilloux Landry01-Nov-2005 15:53
I think it is lovely and wish we had such covenants. Most of the time a beautiful shot I set up is invaded by wires and utility poles. Beauty can never be dull.
royalld01-Nov-2005 15:41
Nicely manicured. Do you sculpture the shrubs yourself?
Bob Foisel01-Nov-2005 15:28
Looks like good birding shot to be had up close.
