October 20: Green –- Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer

Rancho Bernardo, CA

Not wanting to leave any leaf opportunity unturned I waited for afternoon sun, grabbed my tripod, slapped on my super-wide angle lens and snapped away.

It is just dang hard to find a leaf other than green around my spread, and these holly leaves adorn the front of my house year in and year out without ever changing.

Every time I see them I think of Neil Diamond's great song …

Holly holy eyes
Dream of only you
Where I am, what I am
What I believe in
Holly holy
Holly holy dream
Wanting only you
And she comes
And I run just like the wind will
Holly holy

Sing a song
Sing a song of songs
Sing it out
Sing it strong

Call the sun in the dead of the night
And the sun's gonna rise in the sky
Touch a man who can't walk upright
And that lame man, he's gonna fly
And I fly
And I fly

Holly holy love
Take the lonely child
And the seed
Let it be filled with tomorrow
Holly holy

Sing a song
Sing a song of songs
Sing it out
Sing it strong

Call the sun in the dead of the night
And the sun's gonna rise in the sky
Touch a man who can't walk upright
And that lame man, he's gonna fly
And I fly, yeah
And I fly

Holly holy dream
Dream of only you
Holly holy love
Holly holy love

Beautiful leaves. You're lucky to have this kind of plants to adorn your front house, the green colours and leaf designs are just fantastic! :o)

LOL @Snootydog's aversion to holly. This was a bit of a sticky job. The irony is this plant also surrounds my fuse box outside. It is a total pain to have to double check a circuit breaker.
Regarding the seasons.... They are in my blood and it is difficult to adjust to the dramatic and powerful changes most of the country experiences. However I gave up snow for lent 31 years ago, so that is my trade off. And we do have seasons...they are just quite subtle.

Oh, and even though I do like this photo, as a rule I tend to dislike holly. It strikes me as such a stubborn uncreative. Kind of like a plant version of george bush if that makes any sense.

I am told by people in the know that I am much more of a california girl than a new yorker. I just don't know if I could live life without seeing the seasons change. Do you ever get used to it?

I think I must be having a Monday on Friday, I meant (rename), (frio), (frost)

Maybe you should remane the area Rancho Freo, maybe then you could get some front, but then again never mind, snow birds would not like that. Enjoy the nice climate and try back in CO again, next fall.

Great exposure. I searched all over for the little star of light that CJ and Steve mentioned. Now that I found it, I am drawn to it like a magnet.

shatterbug21-Oct-2005 09:22
Another one with leaf envy!...lol. Leaves look great in green too, as these show.
Pepe Zyman21-Oct-2005 05:11
You can always get a can of orange paint :^)
We don't have the colors but we have the sun all year!

WHY are people already ready for X-mas????
You've got a nice holly here Robin, but it really needs some snow to make it real. Give us time.....

Wonderful detail!
Cindy Flood21-Oct-2005 02:08
It is kind of refreshing to see the waxy green leaves of holly. Wish you had some holly berries too.

Shows what can happen when you leave someone with a camera.

Nice shot Robin! Lovely colors, lighting and wonderful details! A few red berries, and we're ready for Christmas!! ;-)
CJ Burianek20-Oct-2005 23:31
Very nice shot with the 10-22!
I need to get that one out more often. Love the little star of light on the lower edge of the middle top leaf!

Nice

Here in Irvine we have a few streets the city decided would look good with trees that changed with the seasons. Believe me, they are still no match for those in the Mid West. You're getting me anxious for Christmas Robin!

They look evil. Ouch... I do like the strong lines they present!
Al Chesworth20-Oct-2005 22:35
Think you should record it Robin.
