29-JAN-2007 Jill

January 29, 2007

The dinghy to the cruiser is what the horse is to the cowboy. Unless you can afford to tie up in a marina every night, you must have a dinghy to leave the ship while anchored away from shore. Our neighbor in the harbor was having trouble with his dinghy's outboard motor. I floated over to help him get it started. I never met him before, but Ted and I are on a first name basis now. That is the way it is when voyaging by boat. No one is left stranded and no one is a stranger for very long.

Afterwards, I stowed our dinghy on Shibumi's stern arch in preparation to get underway.

While here, we rode the free bus service into town. Unfortunately, nothing on our short five item shopping list was available. We will look again in West Palm Beach or Miami later in the week. We like Vero Beach, but it has been too freakin' cold here. So we did what little laundry we had and tomorrow I will top off the diesel and the water tanks... and we are going to continue south, looking for warmer weather (and WiFi High speed internet connections).

As an aside... you see that hat I have on? That is the warmest hat I own.... It was made for me by my best friend's mother, Mrs. O'neal, nearly 30 years ago. Good things last.

Since I got an e-mail that I've won $2 million tonight...
...I may just run out, buy a big boat and join you guys.
Heck... I could even buy Ted a new motor for his dinghy!
: )

I'm enjoying vacationing vicariously through you two! :-) Like Scott said, I think the sailing community shares a great bond. Cool hat, too!

Photographers are like sailors, I guess. Whenever I see a fellow photographer without a good lens, or missing a memory card, or lacking a good subject, I'm right there helping!

Anyway, and this sounds weird, but Nice Dinghy!

West Palm/Miami sounds good. I love the brotherhood of sailors you mention!
