I drove to St. Augustine today to visit Pete at his woodworking shop.
I want Pete to give me a quote on refurbushing the interior of Shibumi's main salon.
While I was there I had to peek in the back of the shop to see PETE's ARK, Norna.
Norma is an all wooden ship that Pete bought at auction after it was involved in a serious fire.
Pete estimates Norna will be ready to go back in the water by the winter of 2008.
We plan to sail Norna and Shibumi together to the Bahamas the following year.
Before then, Shibumi should have made, at least, two other trips across the Gulfstream.

Collen: Pete tells me that Norna is made of white oak. The planking is made of larch.
James: Pete has already put two years of work into Norna.
He thinks it will take another two to get her to float. She should be sea-worthy a year after that.
Norna was built in Denmark.
After the orginal owner sailed her to the United States a problem in the propane gas line resulted in an explosion.
In reconstruction, Pete is trying to stay with the original type materials.
But he does plan to upgrade the propane gas system.

Your friend has a huge project to undertake in just 2 years........you gonna help him? LOL......hey, that's what friends are for, and besides, maybe you can barter for the work that you want done on Shibumi.

You don't see many wood boats anymore. I can see where the fire damaged the bottom. I bet it will be beautiful when it's restored.
