March 22, 2006

During the two and a half day period that **Shibumi's computer was out of service**,
spring arrived and we started a leisurely trip back in the direction we came.
**We stopped for fuel and water at Gilbert's resort**, which is a rather remote outpost on Cross Key.
From Gilbert's we **meandered through the mangroves**
on to Barnes Sound where we could **raise the sails** and run before the wind that was dead astern.
I had to rig a preventer line to keep the mainsail from
gibing (slamming across the deck) whenever the wind got behind it.
At the end of the day we were anchored near Miami Beach.
Almost immediately we were **visited by the Miami Beach police** whose job it was
to tell boater's of the new city ordinance that permitted folks living aboard ship to only remain for 7 days.
Not much of a welcoming committee, but we intend to leave within a week anyway.
Too bad about the 7-day resstriction though, Miami is a great place to reprovision.
There is a nice **canal system** that is easily negotiated by dinghy.
I traveled the canals to the **UPS Store** to pick-up my new ac-adapter so I could breathe life back into my computer.
We will wait in the Miami area until the wind changes enough to give us a decent ride northbound in the Atlantic Ocean.
Yesterday's advisory, "Strong cold-front approaching. Boater's should seek safe harbor immediately".
Those are the type advisories that I hardly notice when living ashore.
But it gets my attention while living aboard our **44-foot semi-tropical island**.

Wow--a beautiful skyline, and it sounds like you've had quite a few busy days.

At least it will be warm when you return

On your way back already Dave, I was enjoying the trip.
Take care now.

I could do with a relaxing moment there right now !

Sorry to see you turn around so soon. Enjoy Miami

Enjoy Miami. Sounds like you'll be watching a big one pass through. I was in Miami this time of year just two years back. I'm so glad your reason for disappearing a few days was not Jill's anger from that shot ;)

Robin: We are little surprised about the early return also.
We found out last week that Jill will have to go to Philadelphia, on family business, in late April.
So we decided on a nice slow pace back home. It may take us two to three weeks.
Heck, it will probably be a week before we leave Miami.

Quite the Odyssey you are on David. I'm a bit surprised you are returning home so soon!? Nice shots.
