Most of the Dunlin have arrived very nearly molted into the dull brown gray of the "basic" plumage. Today a number of birds were seen (overnight arrivals?) that looked like this bird - very reddish brown with a light supercilium and streaking down the sides - not unlike a White-rumped Sandpiper. A number of them had long but straight bills. Perhaps these came from a different breeding population - also they my be juveniles but the books say the striping is gone from the juveniles by the time they leave the breeding grounds.
