BNSF 5251 East

Lucien, Oklahoma

BNSF 5251 East passing the Farmers Co-op Association grain elevator in the community of Lucien. The train's power consist was BNSF Dash 9-44CW #5251, Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana SD70MAC #1614, and Norfolk Southern Dash 9-40CW #9378.

Located just inside Noble County, Lucien developed around the station site selected by the Arkansas Valley and Western Railway in 1903. Originally called Woolsey, the village is named for Lucien Emmerson, the mother of a local doctor. My late father told me about riding aboard a Frisco caboose from Lucien to Enid and return as a fare-paying passenger with his grandmother in the 1920's.
