Asahi Pentax KX (1975-77)

Purchased new in 1976, this KX is my all-time favorite camera. Still working 30 years later, the camera has taken thousands of pictures without failure.

The KX was the successor to the Spotmatic F. Along with the KM and K2, it introduced the K-mount bayonet lens to Pentax users in June, 1975. All previous Pentax 35mm cameras had used lenses with the well known M42 screw thread mount introduced with the Zeiss Contax S in 1949. Earlier Pentax owners could continue to use their screw thread lenses on the new cameras using the Mount Adaptor K. The KX was unique for its time in that the photographer could read the aperture and shutter speed settings through the viewfinder, albeit displayed mechanically. It also featured a mirror lock-up, depth of field preview and battery test button. What more do you need? Oh, how I miss hearing the clunk of the KX's shutter - the *istD is just too quiet!

The camera is shown with the SMC Pentax 105mm f/2.8 lens purchased with it - a fantastic lens on a great camera.
