The Purple Claw

Wednesday 18th May - Day 151

Back out into the garden today, to try and capture some of the colour. My nemesis, purple flowers, are rearing their head again :) This is a purple Rhododendron, which is just beginning to flower. It's only two years old, so it hasn't yet taken over the bank on which it is sitting. I was struck by how claw-like the stamen were, almost grasping the stigma like a prize. I hope I got the techie bit correct - I like colourful plants but am no expert!

On my colour balanced monitor, this is actually pretty close to the colour, although I ended up using the jpeg version as the RAW was just way too muddy for my liking, however I adjusted it.

Such a beautiful and unusual color and the stamens do look like a grasping claw.

Beautiful macro and beautiful colors on my screen too. I find that it's difficult to get purple/blue colors the way I want on my D70.
