Thursday 5th May, South Zeal Church

Thursday 5th May - Day 138

For obvious reasons, for our British viewers at least, I went seeking views of polling stations today. I think it is true, Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. I distinctly remember General Elections when I was growing up as a day off school - the school being used as the polling station. That never seems to happen now I am an adult - Village halls, or other municipal buildings being used instead. In some places even pubs... and they dont close. Sadly, I didn't find one of them today.

My personal belief is that not to vote is to waste a vote, so I have diligently voted in every election since I was 18. I don't believe in influencing, or dare I say boring, others with my politics - not that I'll avoid a row every now and again! However, I do honestly respect the right of those who don't wish to vote.

There were not many people around today, at least hanging around outside the Polling stations - and anyway, I'm not sure how legal it is to photograph these things, but then I found that the Guardian was asking readers to take a photo of themselves wearing a nose clip while voting Labour!

I've also not been well today, my chesty cough has returned with a vengence.

So why this image? Well today is Ascension day, and I happened to venture into South Zeal church as I was passing by, and was convinced I could do something with this view. The shades of light through stained glass windows have always fascinated me.

(Gaussian Blur a duplicate layer, and use lighten blend mode)

This appears to me very spiritual. I love those windows and how the rays of light shine within that darkened room. Maybe symbolic with your thoughts about voting. Very nice.

I love the mood of this and also would like to see the stained glass. Maybe backing up and shooting vertical. Your lighting is very good and I am taken by the light pattern on the table cloth. Well done!

That really does have an ethereal glow about it Lee..voting.
As for elections, out here we vote on Saturdays & from the age of 18 it is illegal not to.

I love stained glass - interesting crop there Lee!
As for the voting; I've STILL not made my mind up, and I don't know whether it's better to vote for the sake of it, maybe for the wrong party, or not to vote at all!?

Thank you for reminding me that it is Ascension Thursday. I even spoke to the Abbot on the telephone this morning and he did not mention it; guess he thought I remembered. I like this shot, but would like to see the entire window of stained glass. Very beautiful.
