Saturday 2nd April 2005 - Day 105
I remember a boating holiday on the Norfolk Broads over 30 years ago. The condition of the water then was beginning to be come filthy, due to run off from the proliferation of pleasure boats, and also fertilizer from the farming. These caused the buildup of algae causing the water become almost black.
Thankfully, this is now being tackled, successfully through the careful reintroduction of shrimp, which are at last beginning to literally eat the algae.
The Broads Authority run short tours around Barton Broad, using a Solarboat, which at least is not causing too much noise, allowing the boat to approach birdlife easily, and also animal life - an otter was briefly glimpsed this morning.
I like the irony of the pollution free boat being overflown by this aircraft.
