Eliyahu Rips (Kedumim, September 2005)
In 1969, in Riga, Ilya Rips poured gasoline over himself and ignited it. This was the young student's way of protest against Soviet troops entering Czechoslovakia. Eli survived, and today he doesn't like to talk about this story. He is a Ph.D in mathematics, "chazar be-tshuva" (returned to religion) and is doing research on codes in the Torah.
