I have been wondering why there were so many of them on our Parsly plant! This helped a lot!😊👌🏻 my daughter took one two days befor it started cocooning and my son got a small one. Is it ok to put them in the same jar??

I read an article that says to put sticks around the caterpillar's home plant for it to make its chrysalis on. I tried that and it seems to be working.

Hello. These are great pictures, but this last one is not a black swallowtail. It is a Tiger Swallowtail in its 'dark phase". In the photo before this of the black swallowtail, notice the shape of the yellow spots!
Thanks - mark

I had many of these caterpillars on my parsley and when it came down to the last one, I took him in. "He" came out of his cocoon today, and SHE is gorgeous, thanks for this website, it helped me a lot.

I have been looking at this series of the Black Swallowtail for a few days, as I recently found 3 caterpillars in my yard, two that are ready to make the chysalis, and one who is still at the first instar state. Your photos have helped me immensely.
Wonderful photos, beautifully captured, a joy to see. Thank you.
