Despite the poor quality of this image, I am posting it because (a) I had never seen a merganser before with my own eyes and (b) it was
a very special moment to see the mother with chicks. I count 9 chicks from all of the photos I took, although there are only six
in this image. Unfortunately, I could shoot only up to 200mm with the lens I was carrying at the time. By the way, the
couple in the previous post were sleeping and missed the whole show only a few yards away from them.
Hank Vander Velde, Janet Forjan-Freedman, Tom Munson and others have far better merganser shots than this one. But within this group
I hold the record of merganser shots taken in England!
