On Issa Lake, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, 2006

Ironically, the dead log in this image is far more vivid in coloration than the reflections of the dark trees in forest that surrounds this lake. I moved my vantage point so that the log floats between, instead of over, the reflected trees and I anchored the image with grass that provides a base for this photograph.

Yes, this image is about death. The dead log, however, does not have to grieve. It is the living that grieve. And that was my intention regarding the contrast in coloration here.

Phil, while I can see how your vantage point nicely helped to position the log among the trees, the entire scene is dark and dead. Is that your intention? Looked like the trees are all gathering and "grieving" over the dead log as it's one of them and sooner or later it's their fate too.
