Storm Day 1 and Counting

We got about an inch and a half (3.8cm) of snow through early afternoon. It started last night and was a steady light semi-wet snow all day. I started to clear the driveway and then decided to capture this shot before I finished the drive. For most of the afternoon I had the only blacktop showing on my street.

However by about 4PM the temperatures started to fall as the winds started to increase and the snow started to stick to my driveway as well. That's the good news! Because the temperatures have dropped lower than the forecasters thought it means the snow will be drier which means less chance of power lines coming down under the weight of wet snow. That's also the bad news! Because the snow is drier it means more snow will accumulate. And the winds overnight are expected to be a steady 20-30 MPH with gusts in the 40-50 MPH range so it could be a mess overnight.

Oh well I'll be home watching the Olympics...

Looks like you're stocked up so hang on and hang tough!

That doesn't sound good but at least you'll keep your power. Want more pics of it. That wind sounds miserable!

Good luck to all you folks in the Northeast, may the wind blow your driveways clean!

Sounds familar! Our temps will be slightly above freezing and I have already heard a few limbs crashing down outside. Glad you took a shot of that "clear" driveway ;)

Hey some metric snuck in there. The snow is piling on thick right now up here. 3 inches (7.5 cm) in the last hour.
