Ooo it's a difficult choice! I love the starkness of the B&W, there are more gritty textures and tones...it seems more....tactile is the only word I can come up with!
Guest 07-Jan-2010 22:13
What an incredible night shot! I love the light trails in the sky and it is a very cool persepctive!

Certainly looks bleak and wintery. Great shot, I think th B&W works best for me, but they're both excellent. Voted

Well worth standing in the cold for 136 seconds!
Walter Otto Koenig07-Jan-2010 01:57
I like the b&w better. It's more dramatic and emphasizes the details of the tree more. Very nice work on this long exposure.
Guest 07-Jan-2010 01:30

Phil , just a quick question on your apature selection, Im my recent Bowes Museum shot I used a typical small apature that I would use for Landscape ( Think it was about 14) . I got a lot of noise in the image and it was suggested that I use a wider app, say f8. Is this why you have gone for F5.6? I'm still learning a lot about the art of night photography so appologies if tis seems a bit of a "num nuts" question.
Kevin Chester07-Jan-2010 00:39
Two brilliant variations in processing Phil.

Now we're talking... I have to say I am usually in the trails or pinpoints camp, short trails like this rarely work, but they do here... With the snowy tree there is just sufficient ambiguity that the stars could actually be falling snow.. That doesn't seem so apparent in the colour version, which is an intense one for sure... This is a really cool shot...
Yvonne06-Jan-2010 23:46
That is snow drifting in the darkness? Superb capture of the tree & lovely
light on the skyline. v

This is an eery black and white Phillip and works superbly well.....but this time colour has the edge, when in direct comparison!
