"When Triumph's Spitfire arrived on the market for 1963, it was aimed to compete with the MG Midget in the entry-level sports car class. Although weight (under 1,500 pounds), horsepower and performance were closely matched, the Spitfire cost $200 more. That premium bought roll-up windows, a swing-axle rear suspension, a more supple ride and a lovely shape penned by Italian master Giovanni Michelotti. By 1965, the Mk II version of the Spitfire was in production with slightly more power and some interior improvements." -- Simeone Automotive Museum
