Awaiting the Ceremony

Thimpu, Bhutan

These students are waiting to attend the coronation ceremony.

Notice the clothing of the students. They are wearing the national
dress made from their school colors. This dress, made with a
variety of materials, is found in most areas of Bhutan.

Men wear a gho, a long robe hoisted to knee length and held in place
with a woven belt called a kera.

Women wear a floor length dress called a kira made from a cloth
wrapped abound the body and fastened at the shoulder with a decorative
broach. A belt holds the kira in place and the outfit is completed with
a short open jacket called a toego.
