The Last Stop...

Dachau

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Socialist.
. : .
.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
. : .
.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --
Because I was not a Jew.
. : .
.
Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.
~ Martin Niemoller

It is sobering looking at your image. I can't imagine how overwhelming it would've been to be there in person. We should never forget.

Excellent, mark. The horror of it all should stay with all, to prevent such a thing from happening again. Fortunately, there WERE some who did speak out, though they suffered for it in the same camps.

The inhumanity humans can do to one another. A fitting quotation to accompany the photo.

scary site, and a perfect quote.

Very chilling. I got the goosebumps and of course reading the words along with it but I really like the treatment you did with this photo. The cold blue chilling light really conveys the feeling one should feel when they see this! Well done.

A painful sight.

Thanks for sharing. Excellent photo and a great documentary. Much of WWII is being forgotten with the passing of the vets.

very impressive Mark.

There aren't many reminders of the Nazi, or WWII in general in modern Germany, but with scenes as powerful as this, not many are needed!
Steve Thuman23-Sep-2011 12:05
Oh yuck. But nicely photographed.
Paul Milholland23-Sep-2011 05:37
"Chilling" doesn't begin to describe this scene. :-(

We can not forget! Sobering what can happen when man turns on man!
